Queen Latifah
Dana Elaine Owens, better than Queen Latifah the United States is a rapper and actress. Queen Latifah's performance in the fields of music, film and television has earned her a Golden Globe award two Screen Actors Guild Awards two Image Awards a Grammy Award and six more Grammy nominations an Emmy Award nomination and an Academy Award nomination. Queen Latifah is a Newark New Jersey native. Her parents were Lancelot Sr. as a police officer and Rita, a teacher of Irvington High School. Latifah's parents separated when she was just 10 years old. Latifah was born and raised in Newark New Jersey attended Catholic schools in Newark. Latifah refers to an Arabic word that means "delicate and gentle". Her cousin bestowed it on her at the age of eight. Latifah's 5'10" height was enough to make her a formidable forward during high school. The song she performed was "Home" from The Wiz in the course of a show in her high school. Latifah became a beatboxer for the Ladies Fresh rap band. Latifah was part of Flavor Unit - a group of rappers who joined by the producer DJ Mark the 45 king. Mark James (aka DJ Mark the45King) recorded a sample of Queen Latifah her rap Princess of the Posse. He gave it back to Yo! MTV Raps Freddy. Dante Ross of Tommy Boy Music was interested by the song. It was signed by Latifah and then released her first track Wrath of My Madness in 1988.
