Take Me Home Country Roads written by co-writer Bill Danoff - was Denver's first Top 10 single as a solo performer after a brief time in small folk groups. Danoff originally wrote it to Johnny Cash's tune with a focus on Johnny Cash, however Denver realized from the first time he heard the first versions of the song that it could be a huge hit. The singer recorded the song within a couple of days after performing it to an enthusiastic audience at Washington D.C.
